Emergency repairs are being carried out on John Dalton Street in Manchester city centre, leading to a full road closure that could last up to two weeks.
Manchester City Council confirmed that the busy street closed from Monday, June 15, after a cavity was discovered beneath the carriageway. A signed diversion route is in place for the duration of the works.
Details of the Closure
The council announced the closure on its Facebook page, stating: “Thank you for your patience while crews work to repair the issue and keep everyone safe. Please allow extra travel time and follow the signed routes.”
John Dalton Street is a major route through central Manchester, linking the city to Salford via Bridge Street. It is used by several bus routes, including the number 50 service between Didsbury and Salford via Manchester city centre.
Impact on Public Transport
Bee Network signs advised passengers to use alternative stops at Bridge Street or Parker Street (Piccadilly Bus Station) to access services. Transport for Greater Manchester was approached for further information but had not responded at the time of reporting.
Workers were seen carrying out repairs on the street on Monday, June 15. The council has not specified the exact cause of the cavity but noted that repairs are being prioritised to ensure safety.
Motorists and pedestrians are advised to allow extra travel time and follow the signed diversion routes during the closure period.
