A 47-year-old driver has been taken to hospital after his black Mercedes left the A19 northbound near Maltby in Stockton and crashed into a tree. The incident occurred shortly before noon on Sunday, June 14, 2026.

The vehicle left the carriageway, went down an embankment, and struck a tree. Emergency services closed one lane of the road, causing lengthy traffic delays. The driver was rescued from the vehicle by firefighters and taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

Emergency Services Response

Cleveland Fire Brigade received the call at 11:57 am. Three fire engines from Thornaby and Coulby Newham attended, extricating the driver and handing them over to the North East Ambulance Service. A spokesperson for Cleveland Police confirmed the driver's injuries were not life-threatening.
