TUI's New Cardiff to Fuerteventura Route: A Winter Sun Escape Under 4 Hours
TUI's Cardiff-Fuerteventura Route: Winter Sun in Under 4 Hours

TUI has launched a new year-round route from Cardiff to Fuerteventura, allowing Welsh travellers to escape to the Canary Islands' warmth in under four hours. This wallet-friendly winter sun holiday promises near-guaranteed beach bliss any weekend.

A Quick Escape from Welsh Drizzle

The flight from Cardiff Airport to Fuerteventura takes less than four hours, meaning you can leave in the morning and be poolside by afternoon. Even in winter, average daily highs hover around 20°C. For those in South Wales, the route saves an extra hour of driving to Bristol or beyond. Cardiff Airport's manageable size means short walks from car parks and a stress-free departure lounge.

Departing on a Saturday during Easter break, we braced for queues due to the new EU entry/exit system, but we sailed through in minutes. The TUI app helps locate coach stops, and free Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport.

Exploring Fuerteventura's Natural Beauty

The island showcases volcanic craters accessible for hiking, resort towns with eateries and gelato shops, and golden beaches with crystalline waters. Northwards, Parque Natural de Corralejo features striking red craters and the largest dune landscape in the Canaries. Stone circles near the shore provide shelter from breezes. Low-rise accommodation shields pool areas from wind, which also moderates summer temperatures (25-30°C, often climbing into the 30s in August).

Activities for All

TUI Musement offers catamaran excursions, snorkelling, surfing, water parks, and wildlife attractions. We took a two-hour dolphin-spotting trip on a glass-bottomed vessel (from £40 adults, £26 children, including transfers). After dropping guests at Lobos, we spent nearly an hour watching pods of dolphins from the bow. The crew ensured everyone had a great view.

It felt surreal to be under four hours from home on an island with nearly 150km of beaches, enjoying short sleeves in early April after a dreary Welsh spring.

The Return and Value

Fuerteventura airport has kids' play areas to ease departure. Long-haul travel is costly and logistically challenging, especially during school holidays. This new TUI route offers affordable, sun-drenched getaways year-round, whether for adventure or beach relaxation.
