Majorca Locals Furious as Secluded Beach Overrun by Tourists and Litter

What was once a hidden gem in Majorca, Caló des Moro, has become an overcrowded hotspot due to influencers on social media. The secluded cove, known for its turquoise waters, has seen a surge in visitors after viral posts on TikTok and Instagram.

Local authorities have removed all promotional pictures of the beach from their official website in response to the influx. Last year, up to 4,000 people and 1,200 vehicles visited the cove daily, leading to piles of rubbish and a loss of six tonnes of sand every three months.

Frustrated locals have protested, with over 300 demonstrators descending on the beach last June. Some blocked paths and shouted at tourists to leave. One protester said, 'Tourists have taken over the beach, and they were going to enjoy it for at least one day.'

Tourist Kristina from Germany, who saw the beach on TikTok, said, 'We just realised that there are protests by people who live here. So now we're looking for another beach to go to.' She added, 'It is a shame, but I appreciate that we are guests on their island.'

Spain saw a record 15 million visitors to Majorca last year. Protests have also occurred in Palma and Barcelona, with locals demanding a reduction in tourist numbers.
