Paultons Park Unveils Major £12 Million Viking-Themed Expansion
Award-winning family theme park Paultons Park has officially released a first look at its highly anticipated new themed world, Valgard: Realm of the Vikings. This ambitious project represents the park's largest single investment to date, with a staggering £12 million poured into its creation. The new Viking realm is specifically designed to appeal to families with older children and teenagers, broadening the park's demographic appeal beyond its already hugely successful Peppa Pig World.
Thrilling Rides and Immersive Experiences
Scheduled to open its gates on Saturday, May 16, 2026, Valgard will introduce several groundbreaking attractions. The headline feature is Drakon, Paultons Park's very first inverting rollercoaster. This intense ride promises to be the park's most thrilling experience, featuring a dramatic vertical lift hill and two inversions that will send riders upside down, catering explicitly to thrill-seekers.
Complementing Drakon is the brand-new Vild Swing, which will swirl riders 12 metres into the air, offering panoramic views of the new world. Furthermore, the park is revamping a beloved classic; the popular Cobra ride will be transformed into Raven, a thrilling bobsled adventure that retains its family-friendly excitement while receiving a complete Viking makeover.
Complete Themed Environment and Construction Progress
To fully immerse visitors in the Viking experience, Paultons Park has constructed a detailed themed environment. This includes the Feasting Hall restaurant, where guests can dine in a setting straight out of Norse legend, and a new Viking-inspired playground tailored for younger visitors. The park, situated on 65 acres on the edge of the New Forest in Hampshire, is renowned for its Disney-like attention to detail and immersive theming, a reputation Valgard aims to enhance.
Lawrence Mancey, Marketing and Technology Director at Paultons Park, provided an update on the construction. 'Despite weeks of rain and difficult conditions, our team and contractors have made incredible progress on site,' he stated. 'We designed Valgard to offer an immersive, atmospheric, and action-packed experience for families, and it's amazing to see the vision come together.'
Mancey confirmed that new pathways have been installed, landscaping has commenced, and iconic Viking statues are now in place. Ride testing for Drakon and Vild Swing has begun, and the Feasting Hall restaurant is nearing completion. 'We are so excited to open the gates in May and see Valgard conquered by our guests,' he added, noting the park's enjoyment in sharing the construction journey online with fans.
Enthusiastic Fan Reaction and Park Prestige
The early reveal of Drakon's ride vehicles on social media sparked significant excitement. Thousands of enthusiasts engaged with the content on Saturday, with guests at the park noting the arrival of the ride carts on Friday, further building anticipation. On platforms like YouTube, fans praised the park's commitment to quality.
One user, @T_coasters, commented, 'This is why Paultons is the best theme park in the UK. It looks amazing,' while @halcyondaystunes added, 'Paultons continue to step it up a level. Putting the big parks to shame.' This positive reception underscores the park's esteemed reputation.
Paultons Park, home to the famous Peppa Pig World, is consistently ranked among Britain's top attractions. In 2025, Tripadvisor named it the eighth best-rated amusement park globally and the fourth best in Europe. The park also swept multiple categories at the 2025 UK Theme Park Awards, including the prestigious Theme Park of the Year award.
Expanding the Park's Portfolio
The addition of Valgard: Realm of the Vikings expands Paultons Park's portfolio to over 80 rides and attractions spread across six distinct themed worlds. Valgard joins other successful areas like Tornado Springs, with its Midwestern America theme featuring the Cyclonator and Storm Chaser coaster, and the dinosaur-themed Lost Kingdom.
Beyond its extensive ride offerings, Paultons Park is noted for its visitor-friendly policies, including free parking, free entry for children under one metre tall, and some of the shortest queue times for rides in the United Kingdom, ensuring a pleasant and accessible day out for all families.
