Food Critic Left Floored by Jeremy Clarkson's Cotswolds Pub Food Vans
Danny Malin, a well-known food critic, embarked on a culinary journey to Jeremy Clarkson's now-famous Cotswolds pub, The Farmer's Dog, located in the picturesque village of Asthall, Oxfordshire. Armed with his portable table and chairs, Danny set out to sample the diverse offerings from the on-site food vans, documenting his experience for his popular YouTube channel, Danny vs Food.
A Scenic Setting for a Gastronomic Adventure
Upon arrival, Danny joined a lengthy queue, eagerly anticipating his meal. He noted the charmingly titled vans, The Farmer's Dough and The Farmer's Puppy, before placing his order. His selection included a Big View Burger, loaded fries, a farmhouse pizza, and wild garlic bread, setting the stage for a feast under the sun in the pub's garden, complete with a pergola-like structure in the background.
Danny started with the wild garlic bread, describing the cheese as absolutely gorgeous with a real nice thickness. He praised the base for being nice and soft and the crust for its doughy texture, ultimately summing it up as delicious.
Praise for Pizza and Loaded Fries
Moving on to the farmhouse pizza, topped with ham and mushroom, Danny noted it was slightly larger than the garlic bread. He highlighted the fantastic sauce, which boasted a beautiful sweetness and a tang. The pizza was cooked perfectly, with thick-cut mushrooms and ham, and had a beautiful saltiness. Danny couldn't fault the offering, praising its great flavour.
Next, he sampled the loaded fries, complete with garlic mayo and cheese. Danny pointed out there was plenty of mayo and complimented the delicious cheese and rich and creamy mayo. He did note the steep price of £9.50 for the portion but justified it by the taste of the amazing cheese and the fairly generous serving size.
The Big View Burger Steals the Show
Danny then tucked into the £14 Big View Burger, featuring baconnaise, lettuce, pickles, beer-soaked onions, and cheddar cheese on a beautiful soft bun. As he took his first bite, he noted the onions had a nice sharp flavour. He described the beef patty as juicy and gorgeous, adding they had got the combination of flavours bob on. The lettuce and pickles added an earthy taste, rounding out the experience.
Final Verdict and Overall Experience
In his final review, Danny heaped praise on the food, revealing he'd spent £48.50 in total. He said, What a beautiful setting this is. What a beautiful place for people to come with a family. You know, you never know. You might see Jeremy walking around now and again. But if not, you can definitely sit down, and you can enjoy some food.
Reflecting on value for money, Danny remarked, I think that's all right, you know. I'm not going to grumble at that because of where we are. It's a day out. It's an activity to come and do with your family. Some places charge a lot more for food that's a lot less quality than this. Overall, I've enjoyed everything.
He concluded with high praise, stating, But for me, it's nothing less than a solid 10 because I've really enjoyed it. Danny's experience highlights the appeal of Jeremy Clarkson's food vans as a destination for quality dining in a scenic Cotswolds setting.
