A British couple's dream holiday to Tenerife descended into chaos after their ill-fated attempt to climb the island's formidable Mount Teide without proper preparation ended in a dramatic mountain rescue operation.
The Ill-Prepared Ascent
The adventurous pair, described as being in their 30s, set out to conquer the 3,715-metre volcano with woefully inadequate equipment and provisions. Despite the mountain's challenging terrain and extreme altitude, they embarked on their climb wearing nothing more than shorts and t-shirts, carrying only a single 500ml bottle of water between them.
Dramatic Rescue Operation
Their situation quickly deteriorated as they ascended, with the combination of high altitude, scorching temperatures, and physical exhaustion taking their toll. Emergency services were alerted when the couple became disoriented and unable to continue their descent.
