Newcastle United star Lewis Hall has a 'decision to make' over a potential move to Manchester United, as the left-back looks to recover from the disappointment of being omitted from England's World Cup squad.
World Cup Snub Sparks Transfer Speculation
England boss Thomas Tuchel controversially left Hall out of his squad for the tournament in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, instead selecting Magpies teammate Dan Burn and Tottenham full-back Djed Spence. The decision came as a blow for the 21-year-old, who had played a key role in Newcastle's Champions League campaign.
Now, Michael Carrick's Manchester United side have identified Hall as a target, with the Red Devils reportedly preparing a £50 million bid.
Hall's Season: Highs and Lows
Hall has made over 100 appearances for Eddie Howe's side, contributing to 10 goals and establishing himself as one of England's finest full-backs. However, his season ended on a sour note. He was dropped from the starting XI for the 1-0 defeat at Arsenal in April and was benched for the 3-1 home win over Brighton, before being deployed as a right-back against Nottingham Forest.
The young defender must now overcome these setbacks, and former Newcastle winger John Barnes believes Hall's future on Tyneside is uncertain.
John Barnes: 'He Has a Decision to Make'
“He’s got a decision to make,” said Barnes, who made 27 league appearances for Newcastle after joining from Liverpool in 1997. “The links don’t surprise me because he’s a very good player. As much as Newcastle United is a great club, it’s a big step up to Manchester United.”
The Red Devils are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of a return to Champions League football, while Newcastle aim to bounce back from a disappointing 12th-place league finish.
“He has a decision to make if he’s going there with the aim of being one of the first names on the teamsheet, or whether he’s going there to be a squad player,” Barnes added to Betfred.
Newcastle's Stance: No Desire to Sell
Newcastle do not want to sell Hall this summer and value him at over £50 million, having bought him from Chelsea for £28 million in 2024 after a year-long loan. However, the Magpies may need to cash in on a star player as they rebuild their squad, with no player's exit ruled out by Toon chiefs.
