F1 25 2026 Season Pack review: Codemasters nails the chaos, for better or worse

The F1 25 2026 Season Pack is here, offering updated game modes, liveries and, crucially, the new 2026 F1 cars. The driving experience is described as sensory overload, which appears authentic given real-life driver feedback on the 2026 regulations.

EA Sports and Codemasters opted not to release a standalone game for 2026, instead launching a paid expansion for F1 25. The new cars are smaller, lighter and have less downforce, with a 50-50 split between engine and electric power. Straight Line Mode replaces DRS, and Overtake Mode provides a 470-horsepower electrical boost when within one second of the car ahead.

The driving experience is chaotic, requiring careful battery management and deployment. However, the absence of super clipping means drivers must lift and coast significantly to conserve battery, which can hinder enjoyment. The AI does not appear to lift and coast, creating an imbalance that leaves players vulnerable.

Players can let the game manage Straight Line Mode and ERS via assists, but this may limit adaptability and pace. The implementation of the ERS system is impressive and realistic, but the realism may detract from fun. Codemasters has accurately replicated the new rules, though the question of how much realism is appropriate in a game remains.

When battery management is removed, the cars feel more responsive and enjoyable. The pack successfully captures the chaos of the 2026 season, but the balance between authenticity and enjoyment is a fine line.
