Club Brugge manager Ivan Leko has confirmed that Christos Tzolis is closing in on a £33.8m transfer to Arsenal, expressing both sadness and pride at losing the Greek winger. Tzolis was absent from Brugge's pre-season friendly defeat to Heerenveen on Friday, prompting Leko to address his departure in a post-match interview.
Leko Confirms Tzolis Exit
Speaking to DAZN, Leko said: "(I am) very happy for him. I am very sad for me on one side, because we are losing a top player." The 22-year-old enjoyed a stellar 2025/26 season in the Belgian Pro League, scoring 22 goals and providing 29 assists in all competitions. He is expected to replace Leandro Trossard at Arsenal, who is set to join Besiktas.
Leko praised Tzolis's dedication, stating: "This is one fantastic example of somebody who was first coming on the training base, last staying there. Every training was like game for him, giving so much for his career, and then you get the reward to sign for one of the biggest clubs in Europe."
Impact on Arsenal's Squad
Tzolis played the full 90 minutes when Arsenal beat Club Brugge 3-0 in the Champions League earlier this season, showcasing his abilities on a big stage. Leko added: "I am convinced that he will have his minutes, that he will show some highest level in the Premier League and Champions League at Arsenal."
Arsenal remain active in the transfer market, with interest in Morgan Rogers and a potential centre-back signing if William Saliba undergoes back surgery. Tzolis's arrival is seen as a key addition to Mikel Arteta's attacking options.
