Morecambe, a Victorian seaside town on the Lancashire coast, has been identified as the fastest trending UK summer destination for 2026, with a 106% increase in interest according to Booking.com research.
Rising Popularity of Morecambe
The town, known for its sweeping sandy beaches, views of the Lakeland hills, and a five-mile promenade, has seen a surge in searches. Ryan Pearson, regional manager for UK and Ireland at Booking.com, said: "This summer, we’re seeing holidays redefined. While classic destinations remain hugely popular, travellers are becoming more intentional about why they travel - whether it’s to discover somewhere new, embrace a solo adventure or a child-free break, or to follow a personal passion. This year's trends show people feel more inspired and adventurous than ever before."
Attractions and Amenities
Morecambe offers a traditional day out with ice cream parlours, amusements, a cinema, a bowling alley, and fish and chip shops. The promenade, which served as a running track for heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury, is ideal for strolls and bike rides. Along the seafront, visitors can find the Eric Morecambe statue, art installations, the restored 1930s Midland Hotel with Art Deco architecture, and Happy Mount Park with children's rides and a splash park.
Visitor Reviews
One TripAdvisor reviewer shared: "Had a lovely week in Morecambe. What a lovely place, the beach was amazing. The weather was not that good, but we still loved it. Can not wait to come back next year." Another commented: "Surprised my wife with a quick seaside trip to Morecambe; she used to visit all the time as a young lass. Lovely scenic views. Especially loved the iconic Eric Morecambe statue. Some rather quaint restaurants along the prom, special mention to Bow window. We had a lovely hot chocolate from the costa too. Worth a visit." However, some noted limited dining options, with one reviewer stating: "Apart from a walk along the length of the promenade, there’s not really much to do in Morecambe. Was hoping for fish & chips for lunch and there was only one chippy all the way along where you could sit on the promenade - it was busy, so ended up in a hotel instead. Not the same."
