Pub Offers Free Beer for a Year to Anyone Who Can Resist Drinking for a Month
Pub offers year of free beer for month without alcohol

A British pub has come up with a unique way to test the willpower of its customers – offering a year's supply of free beer to anyone who can abstain from alcohol for an entire month.

The Duke of Wellington in Sheffield is running the promotion, dubbed the 'Dry-ish January Challenge', where participants must avoid all alcoholic drinks for 30 days. Those who succeed will be rewarded with 52 free pints – one for every week of the year.

How the Challenge Works

To enter, drinkers must:

  • Sign up at the pub before January 1st
  • Have their photo taken for a 'wall of abstainers'
  • Submit to random alcohol tests throughout the month

Landlord Matt Gore said: 'We wanted to put a fun spin on Dry January. It's harder than people think – especially when your mates are enjoying a pint right in front of you.'

The Catch

There is one clever condition – winners must claim their free pints at the Duke of Wellington. 'We know they'll probably bring friends when collecting their free drinks,' Gore admitted with a smile.

The promotion has already attracted dozens of sign-ups, though staff predict most participants will cave before the month ends. 'The record so far is 17 days,' revealed one bartender.
