A 43-year-old mother-of-two from Lincolnshire has died from a rare strain of influenza after collapsing at a service station near Leeds. Jayne Peacock was returning from a day out with her family on Sunday when she was taken ill at Wetherby service station. Emergency services were unable to revive her.
Her husband, Craig, paid tribute to her, describing her as the 'backbone' of a martial arts club she helped found 25 years ago. 'She would give her last £1 to a homeless person. She would starve so that others could have food,' he said.
Mrs Peacock had been suffering from flu, which her family believes caused her death, although the specific strain remains unclear. Flu can lead to serious complications such as pneumonia, sepsis, or organ failure.
The couple were finalists in Grimsby Live's Heart of the Community awards last year for their work with young people. A JustGiving page has been set up to help with funeral costs, with tributes praising her kindness and dedication to her family and community.
