Manchester United have reportedly made contact with West Ham over a potential deal for Crysencio Summerville, as the Red Devils continue to overhaul their squad under Michael Carrick's leadership.
The midfield remains United's primary focus in the transfer market, with a deal already in place to bring Ederson to Old Trafford from Atalanta. United have allocated funds to further bolster their squad, and at least one more central midfielder is expected to join the Brazilian.
Mateus Fernandes is a top target, with discussions already reportedly underway over a potential deal. Following West Ham's relegation from the Premier League, Fernandes is likely to leave the London Stadium, and the 21-year-old is believed to be keen on making the move.
However, he might not be the only player to swap east London for Manchester this summer, as United are also interested in signing Summerville. According to The Athletic, United are among several clubs monitoring Summerville, who has already impressed for the Netherlands at the World Cup.
Alongside Fernandes, the 24-year-old, who scored a stunning goal for the Netherlands in their 2-2 draw with Japan, is one of West Ham's most valuable players following relegation and could potentially depart. Summerville's versatility has made him an attractive option for United if they decide to sign a winger this summer, although strengthening their midfield remains the club's top priority.
United had a successful transfer window last summer, signing established Premier League forwards Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who both brought a new dynamic to their forward line. Summerville, already familiar with the Premier League, would likely command a fee of around £50 million, with three years still to run on his West Ham contract.
The future of Marcus Rashford will significantly influence whether United pursue a move for Summerville or another winger in the transfer window. The 28-year-old joined Barcelona on loan last summer, with the option to make the deal permanent initially considered a formality. However, following Barcelona's £70 million decision to sign Anthony Gordon, Rashford's situation is now uncertain. With two years remaining on his contract, if he were to return, United would likely not seek another wide forward.
