Co-op Extends Delivery Hours for Scotland World Cup Matches
Co-op Extends Delivery Hours for Scotland World Cup

One UK supermarket is extending operating hours for Scotland's World Cup match days, ensuring fans can stock up on essentials without missing a moment of the action. Co-op has announced it will extend its online delivery hours ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which kicks off on June 11. The change will affect 180 stores on England and Scotland match days, including locations in Glasgow, Aberdeen, Manchester, Liverpool, Brighton, and Bristol.

Extended Delivery Hours

To ensure fans don't miss a single moment of the match, online deliveries, which usually close at 10pm, will be available until one hour after kick-off for all six group stage matches. For example, for Scotland's match against Haiti, orders will be delivered up until 3:30am. Delivery windows will be available through major partners including Deliveroo, Uber Eats, Just Eat, and Amazon, as well as Co-op's own online store.

Anticipation High for Scotland's Return

The change in online delivery times comes as welcome news to Scots gearing up to celebrate Scotland's long-awaited return to the World Cup after a 28-year absence. Many matches have challenging kick-off times, such as the early morning Haiti match and the June 19 game against Morocco starting at 11pm. Co-op's extended hours will ensure fans can get snacks and drinks regardless of the time.

Increased Demand Expected

The retail chain expects a surge in demand, with previous national sporting occasions resulting in a 50% increase during peak times. In preparation, Co-op is offering 'supersaver' deals to help fans save money. For example, loyalty members can get two pizzas and two packs of beer (including non-alcoholic and soft drink options) for just £5, saving £8.75. Regular customers can get the same deal for £6, saving £7.75.

Director's Comments

Kate McCrae, Co-op Retail Director, said: “Sport is often a time for people to come together, and we see a significant spike in online orders when the big national sporting moments occur. This summer, working with our delivery partners, we are supporting our shoppers by extending trading hours in 180 stores, often into the early morning hours, so they can be ‘fed and watered’ without missing a second of the football action. We’ve undertaken considerable supply planning to ensure we have availability of the right stock, in the right quantities and in the right place and our promotional plan is also vital, so we offer great value on key lines most often bought on these occasions, so we can all celebrate (or commiserate!) together.”

New Scottish Sour Beer

In related news, a new Scottish sour beer has been launched to help footie fans get an extra dose of energy during late night and early morning matches. Vault City Brewing unveiled the Blue Brew: World Cup 2026 Edition, inspired by Scotland's iconic orange-hued fizzy drink. The limited edition sour beer offers the brewery's iconic Iron Brew flavour with hints of bubblegum and an added shot of caffeine.
