Asda has launched its own version of the viral Cereal Milk Cookies that helped spark a bakery craze at rival supermarket Waitrose, and shoppers are already describing them as "addictive." The supermarket's in-store bakery has quietly rolled out new Cereal Milk Cookies, with four-packs available for £2.24.
According to Asda, each cookie contains 326 calories and boasts cereal-flavoured pieces embedded into a soft cookie base. The new bakery offering was recently discovered in stores by popular food page Newfoodsuk, which posted a photograph of the cookies on Facebook.
The post rapidly garnered attention from shoppers keen to hunt them down. One person simply wrote: "Omg." Another tagged a friend and said: "These are the cookies I was on about." A third noted: "Be nice these but too addictive for one person and high in sugars so best not."
Waitrose Viral Cookies Return
The response echoes the buzz witnessed earlier this year when Waitrose brought back its viral Cereal Milk Cookies as part of a significant bakery revamp. The supermarket reintroduced the hugely popular treat in May alongside 16 new patisserie products influenced by social media bakery trends, including cookies, croissant cubes and loaded cookies.
The cookies had developed a devoted following online after bakery enthusiasts praised their soft texture and distinctive sweet cereal flavour. One customer previously hailed the Waitrose version as "the best on the market" while discussing the supermarket's bakery range on the internet.
Asda's latest launch may well capitalise on the very same trend, introducing the much-loved cereal milk flavour to its own bakery counters at a more affordable price.
