Firefighters Tackle Blaze at Bolton Coffee Shop

Emergency services responded to a fire at a building housing a coffee shop in Bolton town centre on Friday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to Victoria Square at approximately 1:20pm after reports of a blaze at the Coffee House on Newport Street. Three fire engines from Bolton Central and Bolton North fire stations attended the scene, and a cordon was put in place around the area.

A customer reported on social media that they were inside when the power went out and smoke began rising from under the floor.

Crews Tackle Basement Fire

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) confirmed that crews tackled a fire in the basement of the commercial building. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used five dry powder extinguishers and specialist fans to clear the smoke.

The fire has been extinguished, and the response is being scaled down. A GMFRS spokesperson said: “At around 1.20pm today (Friday 12 June), three fire engines from Bolton Central and Bolton North fire stations attended a basement fire at a commercial building on Newport Street, Bolton. Crews wearing breathing apparatus arrived quickly and used five dry powder extinguishers to tackle the blaze as well as specialist fans to clear the smoke from the area. Crews remain in attendance at this time while the incident scales down.”

No injuries have been reported. The coffee shop remains cordoned off as crews continue to monitor the situation. The Manchester Evening News has contacted Coffee House for comment.
