Amazon Recalls Popular Products Over Fire Risk

Amazon shoppers have been warned after several products sold on the platform were found to pose a 'serious' or 'high' risk of fire. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) issued recalls for items that failed to meet UK safety regulations.

The iHEAT heated jacket was flagged as a serious fire risk due to poor construction of its lithium-ion battery pack, which lacked sufficient protection against thermal runaway. Additionally, the power supply plug was noncompliant, with pins too close to the edge, exposing users to live parts. The OPSS advised customers to stop using the jacket immediately and contact the distributor.

Three lamps from two brands were also recalled for presenting a high fire risk. The cord anchorage was found to be inadequate, leading to potential strain on connections over time. Internal wires could detach, causing short circuits and overheating. The affected lamps were rejected at the border and destroyed.

The products failed to meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 and the Plugs & Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994. Amazon has removed the items from its website. Customers who purchased these products are urged to check the recall details and stop using them immediately.
