Aldi Closes Daventry Store for New £650m UK Expansion Plan
Aldi closes Daventry store in major UK expansion

Discount supermarket giant Aldi is embarking on a significant transformation, marked by the closure of one store and the immediate opening of another in a single town, all while pushing forward with a massive national expansion.

A New Chapter for Daventry

The Aldi store located on Sheaf Street in Daventry, Northamptonshire, will serve its final customers on November 26. Having been a fixture in the community since 2010, its closure, however, is short-lived.

In a direct replacement strategy, a brand new, larger Aldi store will open its doors at the Abbey Retail Park on November 27, ensuring local shoppers experience minimal disruption. To mark the special occasion, the grand opening will be led by Team GB hockey star and bronze medalist, Sarah Jones.

Store manager Josh Edwards expressed the team's excitement, noting that having an Olympic hero like Sarah Jones involved will make it a memorable morning for the community.

National Expansion and Job Creation

This store swap in Daventry is just one piece of a much larger puzzle. Aldi is in the midst of an aggressive expansion drive, with 16 new stores scheduled to open across the UK before Christmas.

This rapid growth is backed by a colossal £650 million investment in Aldi's store opening and refurbishment programme for 2025. A key benefit of this expansion is employment, with each new store creating approximately 40 new jobs for local communities.

These new colleagues will be welcomed with competitive wages, earning from £13.02 per hour nationally and from £14.35 per hour for stores inside the M25.

A Strategic Push for Accessibility

Launching 16 new stores in just over five weeks was described as a significant milestone and a clear demonstration of the ambition behind Aldi's growth plans.

In related news, Aldi has also confirmed its festive trading hours. Stores will operate regular hours until December 23, close at 6pm on Christmas Eve, and remain closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day to give staff a well-deserved break. Stores will reopen at 8am on December 27.

On New Year's Eve, stores will again close at 6pm and remain closed on New Year's Day. Customers are advised to check their local store's specific hours online for any variations.
