The result of the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix has changed due to a post-race penalty. Stewards found Franco Colapinto guilty of not slowing enough under yellow flags, a rule breach also investigated for winner Lewis Hamilton during the race. Hamilton was cleared after slowing sufficiently when Fernando Alonso stopped with a problem, but Colapinto did not meet the required standard.
Penalty and Classification Change
Colapinto received a 10-second penalty and a licence point. Initially finishing eighth, he dropped to 10th, losing three points for himself and his Alpine team. This benefits Racing Bulls, as Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad each gained one place, moving to ninth and 10th respectively.
Stewards' Explanation
The stewards stated: "The driver of Car 43 [Colapinto] slightly reduced speed before entering the single yellow flag zone, but did not discernibly reduce speed in the relevant yellow flag sector. The stewards acknowledge that the driver reacted to the yellow flag but do not consider the reaction to be sufficient to comply with the regulations. Therefore a penalty on the lower end of the applicable scale of penalties is imposed."
Other Penalties
Kimi Antonelli received a five-second penalty for track limits infringements, but it was inconsequential as his Mercedes suffered an engine failure with four laps remaining. The stewards noted procedural issues with the black/white flag and recommended the FIA revisit guidelines for clarity.
