There are more than a dozen benefits and discounts available for men and women of State Pension age, offering essential financial support in retirement. The latest figures from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) show there are now 13.2 million people of State Pension age across Great Britain, including over 1.1 million living in Scotland. Many rely on the contributory benefit as their main income source, providing up to £965 every four weeks for 4.1 million people on the New State Pension.
State Pension Payment Rates
Some 8.8 million people who retired before April 2016 receive up to £739 per payment period through the Basic State Pension. For those approaching retirement age, now rising to 67, it is important to be aware of benefits from the DWP, discounts on Council Tax, help with heating costs, and more. Those already receiving State Pension may not know about over a dozen ways to boost their income.
