Karl Lagerfeld's Cat Choupette Has Received 'Nothing' from £1.5m Inheritance

Karl Lagerfeld's beloved cat Choupette, once reported to inherit up to £150 million, has reportedly received 'absolutely nothing' from the £1.5 million sum set aside for her care. The blue-eyed Birman cat, now in the care of Lagerfeld's former housemaid Françoise Caçote, has been left without the promised funds, according to an interview with The Atlantic.

Caçote revealed that she has had to hire expensive lawyers to claim the inheritance in her name and ensure Lagerfeld's wishes are respected. 'While things are being sorted out, I'm doing my best to honour his wishes, especially that Choupette wants for nothing,' she said. 'I work part-time to support her.'

Lagerfeld, who died in 2019, had reportedly left the £1.5 million separately from his will to guarantee Choupette's luxurious lifestyle. The cat, who first came into Lagerfeld's life in 2011 after he cat-sat for model Baptiste Giabiconi, was famously adored by the designer, who once said he would marry her if it were legal.

Choupette is now 14 years old, with the average lifespan of a Birman cat being 12 to 16 years. Caçote remains hopeful that the legal situation will be resolved peacefully, ensuring Choupette's continued happiness and care.
