Paralympic Glory

Zanardi turned to para-cycling and quickly excelled. He represented Italy at the 2012 London Paralympics, winning two gold medals in the handcycling events. He repeated this feat at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Paralympics, adding two more gold medals to his collection. His achievements made him one of the most admired Paralympic athletes in history.

He also won multiple titles at the UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships, with his most recent victory in 2019 in Emmen, Netherlands. However, in 2020, he was involved in another serious road accident while handcycling, which left him in a coma and required extensive rehabilitation.

The FIA released a statement expressing sadness at his passing, describing him as "an enduring symbol of courage and determination." Tributes also poured in from fellow athletes, teams, and fans worldwide, praising his indomitable spirit and inspirational journey.
