Tesco meal deal now includes non-alcoholic beers

Tesco shoppers are divided over a new addition to the supermarket's meal deal. The £4.25 offer (£3.85 with a Clubcard) now includes non-alcoholic beers such as Corona Cero, Heineken 0.0, and Lucky Saint 0.5% Lager alongside the usual sandwich, salad, or wrap and crisps.

Mixed reactions online

A Reddit user spotted the change in a Tesco Express and questioned whether it was appropriate, saying, 'I know it's alcohol-free, but really?!' Others expressed concern about workplace perceptions, with one user wondering what a boss would think. Some commenters called the move 'crazy' or predicted a 'weird subculture' of people drinking alcohol-free beers like soda. On X, @mikeyyygk wrote, 'I just can't see a scenario where you want a 0% beer with a sandwich and quavers?' while @moomoo_captain questioned its suitability for office canteens.

Support for the new option

Not all feedback was negative. Some shoppers welcomed the variety, with u/Aw00gaaa calling it 'class.' Another user suggested pairing a wrap, 0% beer, and a Cadbury Dairy Milk ice cream for under £4. Others wished for real alcohol instead, with @joshpearson180 stating, 'If Tesco make it proper beer instead of 0.0, the humble meal deal would officially be back.'

Background on Tesco's recent changes

This follows Tesco's trial of a hot breakfast meal deal for £5.50, available at 39 UK stores. Items include a Smoked Ham & Mature Cheddar Croissant, Cumberland Pork Sausage Brioche Style Roll, and Sausage, Bacon & Scrambled Eggs Wrap. The trial is not yet national.

Metro has contacted Tesco for comment on the non-alcoholic beer addition.
