A taste test of frozen supermarket Yorkshire puddings has crowned Lidl as the winner, beating market leader Aunt Bessie's. The budget supermarket's offering was described as 'melt-in-the-mouth' and 'perfectly golden'.
The test compared own-brand Yorkshire puddings from M&S, Tesco, Asda, Aldi, Lidl and Sainsbury's against Aunt Bessie's. Lidl's version had a great crunch and moreish flavour, leaving the taster wanting more.
Aldi's Yorkshire puddings came a close second, being light, fluffy and crispy, and tasting much like the branded version at a cheaper price. Aunt Bessie's was praised for its perfect crunch and size, but ultimately lost out to Lidl.
Other supermarkets fared less well. M&S puddings were dry and watery, Tesco's were too buttery and flat, and Sainsbury's lacked fluffiness. Asda's offering had a homemade taste and good crispiness.
