Money Saving Expert (MSE) has revealed a handy trick that could help easyJet passengers avoid paying for extra luggage. The financial experts say that anyone flying with the airline may be able to boost their luggage allowance using a post-security 'loophole'.
According to MSE, easyJet allows passengers to take one shopping bag on board in addition to their standard hand luggage allowance. The airline's website notes under 'Accessories' that passengers are 'allowed to bring some extra things into the cabin, e.g. umbrella, overcoat, crutches, walking stick, one standard bag of goods bought at the airport'.
MSE, founded by Martin Lewis, advises that while easyJet specifies the bag must contain goods bought at the airport, some passengers report successfully boarding with a carrier bag they brought themselves. The trick gives travellers 'some room for manoeuvre' when walking through the departure gate, allowing them to stuff items that do not fit in their hand luggage into the shopping bag.
Currently, each easyJet passenger may purchase up to three checked bags, each with a standard weight allowance of 23kg. Extra weight can be added in 3kg increments up to a maximum of 32kg per bag. Passengers travelling on the same booking can combine their total weight allowance, provided no single bag exceeds 32kg. The maximum total dimensions must not exceed 275cm.
