Amazon's annual Prime Day is approaching, but the shopping giant is already offering early deals. Kindle Unlimited, a vast collection of ebooks borrowed like a library, is free for three months for Prime members who haven't previously used a free trial.
Free Reading for Prime Members
Non-Prime members can still get 30 days of the reading subscription for free before it costs £9.49 per month. The subscription allows readers to borrow up to 20 books at a time, with instant downloads available.
Audible Promotion
A similar promotion is available with Audible, Amazon's audiobook service. New members can get three months for free along with a £10 bonus credit if they sign up this month.
Kobo+ Alternative
Kobo also offers a reading subscription with Kobo+ at a competitive price. It costs £8.99 per month for either reading or listening, or £11.99 for both. This is cheaper than having both Audible and Kindle Unlimited, though Kindle's prices are slightly higher.
Different books are available as part of the Kobo+ library, with some overlapping titles. Notably, a massive range of V. E. Schwab's books are available, including The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, currently the third most-read fantasy novel of the 2026 Goodreads challenge.
Libby Service
Libby is also available for loaning ebooks and audiobooks. It's completely free but requires a library card linked to a local library, which can result in long wait times and some books being unavailable.
Team Recommendations
Here at the Mirror, Kindle Unlimited subscribers have shared their latest loans. Jada Jones, on her 63rd book of the year, is reading Anderson in Bloom by Jennifer Dugan, about a florist who quit Hollywood after her agent betrayed her. Five years later, her ex-girlfriend writes a memoir including her story, leading to complications.
Jada also borrowed Ashley Poston's The Dead Romantics, saying: 'I've had Ashley Poston books for years but never got to them. With her latest, The Someday Garden, coming out, I read The Dead Romantics and regretted not starting sooner. Florence Day sees ghosts, and after solving a crime, she returns home to a funeral home. This book made me laugh and cry.'
Harriet Morphy-Morris enjoys her Kindle Scribe on weekends and loves the choose-your-own-adventure thriller The Dinner Party by Freida McFadden. She also recommends Emily English's So Good Express recipe book, which works well on the Scribe's screen while cooking.
Note: The three-month free Audible deal is available only to Amazon Prime subscribers who haven't previously used Kindle Unlimited.
