Aldi has announced that a £4.99 bottle of wine from its shelves has been recognized by some of the world's top wine experts. The supermarket's Specially Selected Chilean Viognier (75cl) earned a bronze award at the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC).
Award-Winning Flavours
Judges praised the wine for its "apricot and honeysuckle aromas with bright tangerine peel." According to Aldi, the palate offers "tastes of papaya and ginger with a soft, lingering finish."
The £4.99 bottle is among several Aldi wines to recently win awards at both the IWSC and the International Wine Challenge (IWC). The supermarket chain secured more than 50 prizes across its sparkling, white, and red wine ranges, described as "medal-winning bottles available at everyday prices."
Expert Endorsements
Sam Caporn, Aldi wine expert and master of wine, said: "These competitions are judged completely blind, with wines assessed on quality alone rather than brand or price. That's what makes Aldi's results so impressive, with several being awarded Silver medals even when tasted alongside more expensive bottles. With award-winning bottles available from just £4.99, shoppers can enjoy wines recognised by leading judges without paying premium prices."
Julie Ashfield, chief commercial officer at Aldi UK, added: "We've always believed that exceptional wine shouldn't come with an exceptional price tag, and these results prove it. More than 50 awards across our wine ranges shows customers they can trust Aldi for outstanding quality and value, every time."
Other Notable Winners
Other Aldi wines recognized at the competition include the £5.99 Specially Selected Chilean Pinot Noir Reserva and the £6.99 Specially Selected Chilean Merlot Reserva, both of which received IWSC Silver awards. For those who prefer sparkling wine, Aldi's £15.99 Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut was awarded the IWC Silver gong.
The range of award-winning wines is available in Aldi stores across the UK.
