The Met Office has issued a weather warning as an 800-mile band of rain is set to engulf the UK on Thursday, bringing heavy downpours and wintry conditions. The forecast indicates that numerous regions will be affected, with rain turning locally heavy at times before easing later in the day.

Heavy Rain and Wind Expected

According to the Met Office, a wet and rather windy day is on the cards as rain spreads across the east, turning locally heavy at times. However, conditions are expected to ease later, with drier weather arriving by the evening. The forecast also mentions muggy conditions under widespread cloud cover.

Claire Nasir from the Met Office explained: "We have a band of rain which has moved in from the Atlantic overnight and is extending eastwards through today. The wind will pick up towards the west as well as the south. We're likely to see some heavier pulses as well."

Showers will persist in Scotland and the north of England on Saturday before a drier day on Sunday for all of the UK. Temperatures could reach up to 26°C in the south-east on Sunday afternoon, with high levels of grass pollen expected over the weekend.
