A US tourist has taken to social media to complain that crowds on Italy's Amalfi Coast have 'spoiled the entire experience', reigniting debates about overtourism in popular European destinations.
Posting on Reddit, user 'Geedman' said that Positano, a cliffside village often described as one of the world's most beautiful destinations, was overwhelmed by visitors. 'The crowds are beyond anything that the city can hold,' they wrote.
Other tourists echoed the sentiment, describing the narrow coastal road as causing traffic chaos for hours during peak season. One warned: 'Do not go. The number of tourists is insane. All restaurants – full tables, bad reviews, and too expensive. 10/10 would never return again.'
The Amalfi Coast sometimes implements traffic rules based on number plates in summer. Experts suggest visiting during shoulder season, early morning, or late evening to avoid the worst crowds, and recommend using public transport rather than driving.
