A tourist inadvertently drove a white car onto a narrow clifftop footpath on the Gower Peninsula in Wales after taking a wrong turn during a seaside holiday. The incident occurred on Monday, when the driver turned onto the coastal path between Limeslade and Rotherslade following a tyre blowout.
Walkers Stop the Vehicle and Help Change Tyre
The bewildered motorist was brought to a halt by astonished walkers, who stepped in to assist. They helped change the damaged tyre and guided the driver back to the main road. The path, which is designed exclusively for pedestrians, had recently been resurfaced at a cost of £80,000 less than a year ago as part of improvements to the Wales Coastal Path.
Police and Council Respond
South Wales Police confirmed that a Police Community Support Officer attended the scene, but the vehicle had already left before their arrival. Swansea Council stated that its countryside access team inspected the path the following day and found no evidence of damage. The incident highlights the challenges of maintaining accessible coastal paths while ensuring they remain safe for pedestrians.
