The Tartan Army has been issued an extreme heat warning in Miami after organisers temporarily halted entry to the official FIFA Fan Festival due to temperatures exceeding 40°C (110°F). The fan zone at Bayfront Park in Downtown Miami was forced to pause admissions at 3pm local time (8pm Scotland time) on Monday, June 22, as fans gathered to watch France versus Iraq.
Heat Warning Triggers Safety Measures
According to a statement from the Miami 26 organising committee, the heat index reached 110°F, prompting officials to urge all guests to seek shade and stay hydrated immediately. Entry was paused until public safety authorities deemed conditions safe. The committee emphasised that fan safety is the top priority and thanked attendees for their cooperation.
Thousands of Scotland supporters have travelled to Miami for the World Cup, with many expected to watch the crucial group stage match against Brazil on Wednesday, June 24, at the fan zone. Scotland need a win to guarantee a spot in the last 32, though a draw or low-scoring loss could still see them advance as one of the best third-placed teams.
Continued Heat Risk
Meteorologists predict temperatures will remain in the mid-30s Celsius over the coming days, meaning further heat warnings could lead to additional entry restrictions. Fans are advised to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and seek shade during peak heat hours.
The Tartan Army has been urged to prepare for the extreme conditions, as the Florida heat poses a serious risk to health. The match against Brazil will take place at Hard Rock Stadium, with Scotland hoping to secure a historic victory.
