easyJet has issued an important update for UK holidaymakers traveling to Gibraltar, warning of potential delays due to new border procedures. The airline advises passengers to allow extra time for both arrivals and departures as the Entry/Exit System (EES) checks may cause longer queues.
New Border Checks at Gibraltar Airport
In a statement, easyJet explained: "EES border checks may be carried out for both arrivals and departures at Gibraltar Airport, which could result in longer waiting times when entering or leaving the country. Please allow extra time when planning both legs of your journey."
90-Day Schengen Rule Reminder
The airline also reminded British nationals that time spent in Gibraltar now counts towards the 90-day Schengen allowance. UK passport holders can stay visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period across Schengen Area countries, including Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.
For non-EU nationals, including UK travelers, a Schengen visa may be required to enter Gibraltar. easyJet urges passengers to check visa and entry requirements before traveling.
The alert comes as part of post-Brexit rule changes, affecting travel to and from Gibraltar. Holidaymakers are advised to plan accordingly to avoid disruptions.
