The Met Office has indicated that warmer conditions are on the horizon for the UK, with temperatures potentially reaching 30C in some areas this weekend. This follows a recent spell of rain and strong winds after a 35C scorcher at the end of May.
Met Office Forecast for Warmer Weather
Met Office meteorologist Dan Stroud stated: "We're looking at temperatures climbing into the weekend, particularly on Saturday and Sunday, so feeling much warmer than recent days, with temperatures quite widely above average, especially across the south come Saturday, and even more so on Sunday."
Mr Stroud noted that the southeast could see highs in the high 20s, with "a chance" of reaching 30C. He also mentioned the "potential" for a heatwave, though longer-range forecasts carry more uncertainty.
Definition of a Heatwave
A heatwave is defined as at least three consecutive days where the daily maximum temperature meets or exceeds a specific threshold, which varies by location.
Cause of Warmer Weather
The warmer weather is attributed to a change in the jet stream, with higher pressure building from the south, bringing sunnier and more settled conditions.
BBC Forecast Comparison
While the Met Office suggests a heatwave is possible, the BBC's forecast indicates that the UK may not quite reach the threshold. For London, highs of 24C to 27C are expected between Saturday and Tuesday.
