London Heatwave: Temperatures to Rise Steadily Through Late June

London is set to bask in sunshine once again after a wet and blustery mid-June. A hot spell is expected to last throughout late June and early July.

Current Weather and Forecast

The capital experienced a record-breaking heatwave in May, with temperatures reaching 35.1C in Kew Gardens on Tuesday, May 26. However, since then, it has been an unusually cool and cloudy June.

Today (Saturday, June 13) brings gentle sunshine with a dry outlook and mercury rising no higher than 21C. This moderate pattern looks set to continue over the next few days.

Pollen Alert

Despite the mild temperatures, the Met Office has issued guidance around pollen levels. A red 'very high' alert is in force in London and the South East on Saturday, June 13, as well as Sunday, June 14 and Monday, June 15.

Temperature Rise

Pollen will ease on Tuesday as temperatures climb by two or three degrees. The warm spell will linger through the week, jumping several degrees higher on Thursday, June 18, when temperatures reach a peak of 27C.

The hot spell will be sustained from then on, with peaks of 27C expected across Friday and next weekend, although there may be some mild showers.

Extended Outlook

The warmth is predicted to last all the way through the end of the month and first week of July, with daily highs hovering in the mid to late 20s, according to the Met Office.

The forecaster stated: “Towards late June, there is a signal for more widely settled conditions to develop with high pressure more likely to dominate, with temperatures probably remaining above average for most.”

“High pressure is expected to lie close to the UK at the start of [July], bringing largely settled and dry conditions. Temperatures will likely be above normal, with the potential for hot conditions to develop, especially in the south.”
