Ryanair Incident Changes Flyer's Seatbelt Habits Forever
Ryanair Incident Changes Flyer's Seatbelt Habits Forever

Judy Finnigan has declared she will never fly with her seatbelt unbuckled again after learning of a terrifying incident on a Ryanair flight. A passenger, Ljubisa Karovic, was partially sucked out of a window that shattered at 20,000 feet. His seatbelt and his wife Svetlana's quick reaction saved his life.

Survival Against the Odds

Karovic, a Serbian man, was sitting beside his wife when the window suddenly broke. His head and shoulders were pulled through the gaping hole. Svetlana instinctively grabbed his legs and held on as cabin pressure equalized. With help from other passengers, she dragged him back inside. He is now hospitalized in shock and unable to speak, but alive.

Finnigan reflected that she normally unbuckles the moment the safety light goes off. She now realizes that simple act could have been fatal. The narrow belt made the difference between life and death.

Cautionary Tale for All Flyers

Finnigan urges all passengers to stay buckled up throughout the flight, even when the seatbelt sign is off. The incident serves as a stark reminder that turbulence or sudden depressurization can occur without warning. She intends to follow her own advice from now on.

Commitment and Financial Stability

In a separate reflection, Finnigan discusses a study by the Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) showing that men who settle down by age 34 are three times more likely to be financially stable. The study defines settling down as passing GCSEs, finding a job, getting married, and having children.

Former armed forces minister Al Carns MP wrote the foreword, stating that boys need guidance on what to become, not just what not to be. Finnigan notes that her husband Richard left school at 16, went into journalism, and by 31 they had two children together. His early commitment and career establishment gave him confidence and stability.
