From Accidental Beginnings to Professional Success

Ursula's journey began unexpectedly in 2018 when she started photographing her eldest dog, Hugo, now 12 years old, dressed in playful outfits. Initially, she used Hugo as a practice model for her London-based dog photography business, Phodography, where he accompanied her on shoots. Speaking on ITV's This Morning with hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, Ursula explained, "It started by accident. I had a business photographing other people with their dogs, and Hugo used to come with me. I began photographing him because he was a good model, dressing him up in silly outfits, and it grew from there."

She credits a friend's advice for her professional breakthrough: "When I started, I didn't have a clue people made money from this. A friend suggested I spend more time, use hashtags, and deliberately film certain content. I tried it, and it worked."

Her content blends human and dog-centric themes, focusing on pet-related products and services. "My account features me with the dogs, so it includes human elements, but broadly it's dog-related—whether it's pet insurance, dog food, events, or cleaning products," she noted.

Ursula's dogs are signed to modeling agencies, with day rates ranging from £500 to £750. They have achieved notable milestones, including features in Vogue magazine last summer. "I have an agency with them, and they have another modeling agency outside of Instagram where they are signed just as dogs," she revealed.

Encouraging others to explore pet influencing, Ursula emphasized storytelling and patience. "I think anyone's pet can be an influencer. It's about being a good storyteller, being camera-ready, and capturing their personality. Commands help, but never let it take away from them being your pet first. She also highlighted the benefits of including owners in content. "The advantage of having both owner and dog is the relatable relationship viewers enjoy. Some prefer focusing solely on the dog, which works too."
