BT is introducing a new Wi-Fi router that promises stronger connectivity and enhanced security features. The Smart Hub 3 will soon be available to UK households, offering improvements over previous models.
Enhanced Security and Performance
The Smart Hub 3 includes technology that automatically identifies dangerous websites, warning users before malware or other online threats can cause harm. It also detects attempts by hackers to access smart home devices, such as internet-connected cameras, and blocks suspicious activity. Users can monitor threats through the Hub Threat Protect feature in the MyBT app.
Performance-wise, the router supports Complete Wi-Fi Plus, which extends signal coverage and reduces dead zones. It is based on Wi-Fi 6 technology, which offers faster speeds, lower latency, and improved reliability compared to older Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 4 standards.
How to Get the Smart Hub 3
BT’s Smart Hub 3 will be available to all new customers, while some existing users may also qualify for an upgrade. The router has a clean, minimalist design with a small BT logo.
Wi-Fi 6 vs. Wi-Fi 7
Wi-Fi 6 improved wireless performance by increasing speed, efficiency, and capacity. Wi-Fi 7, found on some competing devices like EE routers, offers wider 320 MHz channels, reduced latency, and even higher speeds, making it ideal for gaming, 8K streaming, and advanced smart home setups. However, many current devices do not support Wi-Fi 7, so Wi-Fi 6 remains a capable option for most households.
