Thousands of Spotify users have found themselves locked out of the widely-used music streaming service, as extensive technical difficulties continue to disrupt access across the platform.
According to outage monitoring site Downdetector, complaints started surging on Friday afternoon, with subscribers facing substantial challenges using the audio streaming application. Numerous individuals were completely unable to log in, while others experienced issues with music playback and streaming functionality.
Several customers also reported being entirely shut out of their accounts.
Spotify confirmed the disruption via social media, saying it was aware of the problems affecting certain users and was actively examining the root cause. The streaming behemoth has not yet revealed what sparked the outage or the total number of customers affected.
As one of the globe's most widely-used audio streaming services, Spotify is depended upon daily by millions to access music, podcasts and audiobooks. The complete scale of the disruption remains uncertain, and no estimated timeframe has been provided for when regular service will resume.
A dramatic surge in reported problems with the Spotify application can be observed on a Downdetector chart. According to the website, the outage seems to have commenced shortly after 1pm.
Paying subscribers have been especially outspoken in their annoyance, flocking to X to request refunds while the outage continues. "How about you return some money to customers for app not working correctly. What am I paying premium for?" one user fumed.
Another added: "Always the same! Is this what we're paying premium for?"
Spotify Premium subscriptions in the UK begin at £5.99 per month for students, rising to £12.99 per month for adult users.
