Our Yorkshire Farm star Amanda Owen has revealed a wardrobe malfunction involving a very low-cut dress and her unconventional solution using silage tape. The Yorkshire shepherdess, known for her rugged workwear on the show, shared the story on the My Wardrobe Malfunction podcast with host Charlie Hedges.
Wardrobe Challenges on the Farm
Amanda, who often appears in practical clothing for farm life, admitted she enjoys dressing up for special occasions. However, her efforts have not always gone smoothly. She confessed a fondness for cut-out dresses but noted the impracticality of wearing a bra with them. 'Being a woman of a certain age, having had nine kids, things sometimes don't sit quite where they should sit,' she explained.
Boob Tape Disaster
Amanda recalled wearing her favourite dress to two TV awards ceremonies. The dress was 'very low cut, and it went right down below my sternum and then it tied at the back.' She tried using boob tape to keep everything in place, but it failed spectacularly. 'I have skin nothing sticks to. It might be because I'm greasy or something, I don't know,' she said. On the red carpet, the tape came loose, dropped off, and stuck to her foot. The next day, headlines focused on her not wearing a bra rather than her awards success.
Turning to Silage Tape
Determined to avoid a repeat, Amanda sought a stronger solution for a charity event. Drawing on her farming background, she used silage tape, known for its extreme stickiness. 'I was like, ‘Hell yeah, this is going to work. Nothing is going to be going nowhere’. It was like some sort of bondage kind of thing,' she recalled.
Unexpected Horse Foaling
However, farm life intervened. On her way to the event, Amanda discovered one of her Clydesdale mares, Hazel, was foaling. With no mobile signal and a power cut leaving her without internet, she had to act. 'I ran upstairs, took the dress off. And I was like; 'This sticky tape's got to come off because I've got bigger fish to fry.'' She ripped off the tape, causing discomfort, and rushed to help the horse. 'I ran out into the field in a pair of really bad bobbly leggings, and Hazel was absolutely knackered. She laid down and, from some place that I will never know, I pulled out that foal.'
A New Perspective
After that experience, Amanda has changed her approach to the dress. 'I have actually worn that cutout dress again, but I have a whole different take on it. I have just gone for ‘You know what? It's fine. Things just have to go where they naturally gravitate to, and as long as they don't actually fall out, it's fine.’'
Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive and Kids airs on Channel 4 at 8pm on Friday, June 19.
