Hurting Danny Rohl promised Rangers fans he would come back a better manager after his eight-month Ibrox rollercoaster, and it now appears he has convinced RB Salzburg he will deliver on that vow.
Final Match and Promise
Rohl led his team to a 5-2 win away to Falkirk on the last day of the season, mercifully ending a four-game losing streak that torpedoed their title hopes. Ultimately, it will prove to have been his final game as manager, with Salzburg closing in and Derek McInnes lined up to replace him.
He could hardly have seen that coming though, and speaking back then, he vowed he would come back a better manager.
He said: "It's been an emotional rollercoaster. Four weeks ago here (6-3 win), I was totally convinced that we could win the league, but we couldn't. The gap was too big and there were too many defeats.
"We were competitive but not good enough in the key moments. That's what we need to improve.
"I want to thank the players and staff who have supported me really well.
"I will take all the information and see what we have to improve. I'll come back in four weeks with a lot of energy for the new season.
"Rangers is a big job, a demanding job. That's the reason why I like to be here. I demand a lot from myself and players.
"After these games, I will be a better manager than before."
Salzburg Convinced
Evidently, he has convinced Salzburg, who are about to pay around £2 million to buy him out of his Ibrox contract, that it is a promise he is well placed to keep.
