Marcus Rashford's hopes of a permanent move to Barcelona are in doubt after the Catalan club spent £69.3m on Anthony Gordon. The Manchester United forward, who spent last season on loan at Barcelona, had been expected to join permanently for around £26m, but Barcelona's pursuit of Gordon and Julian Alvarez has raised questions over their ability to sign Rashford.
Former Chelsea star Pat Nevin has warned Rashford that his transfer options are limited unless he lowers his financial demands. Nevin told Grosvenor Casinos: "If I was advising Marcus Rashford I'd tell him to stop being obsessed with money and cut a deal to stay at Manchester United because that's where he belongs." He added that Real Madrid may be the only club able to afford Rashford's wages.
Rashford excelled during his loan at Barcelona, scoring and assisting in double figures. However, Nevin believes Chelsea would not pursue him due to their focus on younger players, and Aston Villa could be an option only if salary expectations are reduced. Rashford previously contributed four goals and six assists in 17 appearances for Villa during the 2024/25 campaign.
Nevin urged Rashford to prioritise playing time over money, saying: "For Marcus, if he can blank agents and sit in a darkened room then turn on the light and look in the mirror and say: 'How do I want to be looked back on in 20 or 30 years' time?'" He also suggested that a return to Manchester United is unlikely, despite Rashford being an academy graduate.
