Man Utd's Patrick Dorgu likes post slamming Amorim's midfield pairing
Man Utd star likes post criticising Amorim's midfield

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is facing internal discontent after one of his own players publicly endorsed criticism of his midfield selections.

Red Devils wing-back Patrick Dorgu has stirred controversy at Old Trafford by liking an Instagram post that slammed Amorim's persistent pairing of captain Bruno Fernandes and veteran Casemiro in the centre of the park.

Social Media Stir at Carrington

The incident comes during a challenging period for United, who currently sit 10th in the Premier League with just five victories from their opening 12 matches. Despite a memorable win against Liverpool at Anfield, recent form has been disappointing, culminating in a 1-0 home defeat to Everton.

Dorgu gave his approval to a post from fan account 'mufcunion' which featured a screenshot from X stating: "Any coach that sees Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes as a viable pivot is one that isn't serious." The Instagram caption declared bluntly: "Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro CANNOT play together," and received the player's endorsement.

Amorim's Preferred Partnership Under Scrutiny

The midfield duo has been a cornerstone of Amorim's strategy this season, with Fernandes and Casemiro starting together in 10 of United's 13 matches across all competitions. The only exceptions came during a heavily rotated Carabao Cup tie against Grimsby Town, and league fixtures against Brentford and Manchester City.

In those matches, Manuel Ugarte partnered Fernandes, though the selection against Brentford was enforced due to Casemiro serving a suspension after receiving a red card against Chelsea.

The Brazilian's future at United remains uncertain as his contract approaches its conclusion. Despite showing improved form compared to last season, it's unclear whether the 33-year-old will extend his stay at Old Trafford.

Broader Implications for United

This social media activity from Dorgu, who joined United from Lecce in a £25 million transfer earlier this year, creates an unwelcome distraction for a club already under pressure. The Danish defender has made 12 appearances across all competitions this season, registering one assist.

Meanwhile, United have been linked with several midfield reinforcements, including Brighton's Carlos Baleba and Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson, as speculation grows about potential January transfer business.

Such public displays of dissent rarely bode well for squad harmony, placing additional scrutiny on Amorim's management during a period of inconsistent results.
