Jockey's Epic Dating Video After Mum Tried Getting Him Girlfriend at Cheltenham Festival
Tom Bellamy rode the 40/1 outsider White Noise to a stunning victory in the Mares' Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, but his mother had other priorities that quickly overshadowed the sporting triumph. In a hilarious turn of events, Bellamy's mum made a very public plea on live television to find her son a girlfriend, sparking a viral conversation and prompting the jockey to issue a comical response ahead of the Gold Cup on Friday.
Mum's Unusual Request Goes Viral
When interviewed by ITV Racing about what Tom could achieve in the future, his mother candidly stated, "A girlfriend! Anyone out there... he's a nice lad." This unexpected remark quickly captured headlines and spread across social media, turning the focus from Bellamy's racing success to his personal life. The jockey, seizing the moment, shared a brief video aired on ITV, making a playful pitch to any potential romantic interests.
In the clip, Bellamy introduced himself with charm, saying, "My name's Tom Bellamy. Cheltenham Festival-winning jockey. My hobbies involve riding horses... regularly. I play the odd game of golf. I enjoy watching sport, cricket mainly. I'm an all-round good guy. And in the words of my mother, a nice lad. Six foot. Thirty one. What a catch! What's not to like?" ITV Racing complemented this with a spoof Tinder profile image featuring Bellamy atop his victorious horse, captioned: "Cheltenham winner and nice lad - says mum."
A Memorable First Cheltenham Victory
Bellamy's win in the Mares' Novices' Hurdle marked his first-ever success at the prestigious Cheltenham Festival, leaving him speechless in a post-race interview. He expressed, "I've waited my whole life for this day. I genuinely am speechless, I cannot believe it. Delighted for the team at home who've supported my whole career." His mother echoed the joy, remarking, "It's what dreams are made of. It's amazing, a big price, great for the yard, the lads, the lasses and the mother who has to put up with him on the way home because it has gone badly."
This victory was particularly poignant as it came less than a year after Bellamy sustained serious injuries while riding Broadway Boy in last year's Grand National. The horse fell at the 25th fence, throwing Bellamy to the ground and resulting in a broken wrist that required hospitalisation at Aintree University Hospital. Broadway Boy received veterinary attention on the track and was later returned to his stables, highlighting the risks inherent in the sport.
Looking Ahead to the Gold Cup
Despite the festive atmosphere surrounding his personal life, Bellamy will not be participating in the upcoming Gold Cup on Friday. Gaelic Warrior is tipped as the favourite to clinch the headline event, potentially securing additional triumph for trainer Willie Mullins and jockey Paul Townend. Bellamy's focus, however, remains on celebrating his hard-earned victory and the unexpected viral fame brought by his mother's heartfelt, if unconventional, support.
