Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are reportedly planning to build a 'super brewery' and visitor centre for Wrexham Lager, one of the world's oldest lager brands. The Hollywood duo, who co-own the brand, have submitted a planning application to develop the site, which would include a brewery, taproom, and museum, according to MailOnline.
The proposed facility would utilise existing buildings on the site and feature tasting rooms open to match-day fans and tourists. Reynolds is said to be keen to create 'an attractive welcome to the city of Wrexham'. The pair took co-ownership of the brand in 2024, having previously sponsored it through their ownership of Wrexham AFC.
The news comes after Wrexham AFC made history in the 2024/25 season by becoming the first team in the English league system to win three consecutive promotions, rising from non-league to the Championship. Their journey has been documented in the Disney+ series 'Welcome to Wrexham', which has boosted tourism in the area.
In the finale of the fourth season, Reynolds revealed his nervousness before the historic promotion was secured. He said: 'I feel very nervous, like, very very nervous.' The promotion was confirmed after Wycombe Wanderers lost 1-0 to Leyton Orient in April, allowing Wrexham to beat Charlton Athletic 3-0 and seal their place in the Championship.
Reynolds added: 'That was the moment I think all of us, everybody, the entire town, went 'Holy s***, this could happen.' We could not only be promoted, but we could make history while doing it.'
