Michael Carrick has responded to Roy Keane's recent comments about his wife Lisa, describing them as irrelevant to his focus as Manchester United's interim manager. Keane, speaking on the 'Stick to Football' podcast, joked that Lisa Carrick had a 'big mouth' and could deliver team talks if her husband failed in his new role.
The remarks referenced a 2014 tweet from Lisa Carrick, which criticised Keane for his comments after United's 2-0 defeat to Olympiacos. She quickly deleted the tweet, apologising for letting emotions get the better of her. Keane's latest comments were made as the panel discussed Carrick's appointment until the end of the season.
In his first press conference as interim boss, Carrick said: 'It didn't bother me. They're not putting more pressure on me. There are plenty of opinions around, some positive, some not too much. It's totally irrelevant in terms of what I focus on.'
Carrick, who previously served as caretaker manager in 2021, leading the team to two wins and a draw, will take charge for the first time on Saturday in the Manchester derby against City. He left Middlesbrough last summer after a stint in the Championship.
