Carragher Urges Salah to Stay at Liverpool Until Summer Despite Slot Rift
Carragher tells Salah to stay at Liverpool until summer

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has made a direct and public plea to star forward Mohamed Salah, urging him to put his differences with manager Arne Slot aside and remain at the club until the end of the season.

The Public Fallout and January Exit Fears

This intervention comes after Salah's explosive comments following Liverpool's 3-3 draw with Leeds United last week. The Egyptian international stated he has 'no relationship' with head coach Slot and suggested the subsequent 2-0 victory over Brighton could have been his final appearance for the Reds. These remarks sparked immediate speculation that the 33-year-old could seek a January transfer exit, which would bring a premature end to his illustrious eight-and-a-half-year stay at Anfield.

Carragher's Emotional Plea for a Proper Farewell

However, Carragher, speaking on Sky Sports, has implored Salah to reconsider any mid-season departure. 'I don't see Mo Salah playing for Liverpool next season,' the former defender admitted. 'The big thing on my mind is: "Are we going to see Mo Salah from now until the end of the season?"' He warned Salah against leaving for a potential move to the Saudi Pro League now, highlighting what he would miss.

'If he is thinking of moving on, I would urge him to think again,' Carragher stated. 'Liverpool in the second half of the season could reach the FA Cup final, the Champions League final. Can you imagine Mo Salah in Saudi Arabia watching Liverpool come back in Budapest in the Champions League final?'

Carragher emphasised that Salah has earned a monumental send-off from the club and its supporters. 'He deserves a guard of honour, a mosaic on the Kop. He deserves his wife and kids to come onto the pitch at his last game and for what he has done as a Liverpool player to be celebrated,' he said. His message was clear: 'So put your differences with the manager aside for four months and get this big send-off.'

A Strained Relationship and Recent Criticism

This public advice follows a period of significant tension. Carragher has been one of Salah's most vocal critics in recent weeks. After Salah's initial outburst, where he claimed he had been 'thrown under the bus', Carragher labelled the player's actions a 'disgrace' in an eight-minute segment on Monday Night Football.

In a later column for The Telegraph, Carragher argued that Salah had miscalculated the impact of his interview. 'If Mohamed Salah's intention with his Elland Road grumble was to weaken Slot, he must now concede his wrong-headed actions have had the opposite effect,' he wrote. Carragher suggested a key reason for this was 'his inability to fully comprehend the psychology of the club's fanbase,' adding that in a choice between a title-winning manager and a title-winning player, the manager wins.

The situation escalated when Slot subsequently left Salah out of the squad entirely for the Champions League trip to face Inter Milan, a match Liverpool won 1-0. Salah has since been reintegrated, coming off the bench against Brighton to provide an assist for Hugo Ekitike's goal in the 2-0 win. The coming weeks will reveal if he heeds Carragher's call to see out the campaign and secure a legendary Anfield departure.
