MP Nash Praises Starmer's Departure

Pamela Nash, MP for Motherwell, Wishaw and Carluke, praised Sir Keir Starmer for announcing his departure earlier today. In a statement delivered outside 10 Downing Street, Sir Keir said he accepted he was not best placed to lead the Labour party into the next general election and had informed The King of his decision to step down.

Nash's Praise and Criticism

Ms Nash praised Sir Keir for leading the party through a difficult period and returning it back to government. However, she said there had been a "failure to provide a progressive vision" and that that had allowed "right-wing ideology to take hold".

Ms Nash added: "Under Sir Keir’s leadership, we have begun the process of improving people’s lives, including by lifting the vile two child cap, introducing enhanced support to get young people into training and work and increasing the living wage. He has rebuilt our international reputation and stabilised our economy."

New Challenges Ahead

She continued: "However, there are now new challenges to our country to the ones which Sir Keir inherited. In the last two years there has been a failure to provide a positive progressive vision that people across the country can look forward to and feel part of. This has allowed a divisive right-wing ideology to take hold and this cannot be allowed to flourish."

The Prime Minister has taken the correct decision this morning, listening to what the electorate told us loud and clear in May. His premiership will be remembered for honesty, decency and always seeking to put the country first.
