Former Prime Minister Liz Truss has accused Sir Keir Starmer of 'batting for the other side' in the Iran war during a speech at the CPAC International Conference in Texas. Truss, speaking at the pro-Trump event, claimed Labour has an 'islamist' voter base and that the Prime Minister's reluctance to join US-led strikes against Iran was to avoid upsetting them.
'The situation in Britain is Britain is under socialist rule,' Truss said. 'And it's not just socialist rule. We've actually got a government who wants to appease the islamists. That's why they sat on the fence over Iran. That's why they failed to offer up bases to be used in the strikes against this appalling regime, because they are concerned about what's going on with their voter base. Their islamist voter base in Britain.'
She added: 'We have a prime minister now who does not know what side he's on. In fact, you might say he's batting for the other side.' Truss also complained about Britain's focus on renewable energy instead of fracking and North Sea drilling.
This is Truss's third appearance at CPAC, America's largest right-wing convention, which many senior Trump administration officials are expected to attend. She is scheduled to speak again on Friday on a panel about 'The Future of Europe'.
