Nigel Farage Loses Thousands Weekly After Halting Cameo Video Messages

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage is facing a significant financial loss, estimated at around £2,692 per week, after he suspended his lucrative video shout-out service on the Cameo platform last month. The Brexit figurehead had been selling personalised filmed messages for £71 each through the US-based website, but ceased this activity amid controversy over recordings made for questionable individuals and events.

Lucrative Side Hustle Comes to an Abrupt End

Farage's decision to halt his Cameo contributions follows an investigation into more than 4,300 clips he recorded since joining the platform in April 2021. Last November, it was revealed that the MP had earned an impressive £140,000 from selling these personal messages over an 11-month period. His Cameo page currently indicates that 10,700 people are waiting for him to resume creating content, with the listing stating: Nigel Farage is unavailable. When users inquire about a potential return, they must log their email address. The site describes his offerings as providing fans with a unique opportunity to receive personalised messages from the former UK politician and Brexit leader. Customers could request messages for various occasions, from birthdays and retirements to roasts and motivational pep talks.

Political Priorities Under Scrutiny

During the same 11-month period when Farage earned £140,000 from Cameo, his parliamentary activity records show he spoke in the House of Commons on only 22 occasions. These speeches covered topics such as grooming gangs, Ukraine, and migrant boat crossings. Notably, he mentioned his constituents in Essex just three times during this timeframe.

Farage's videos were often requested to reference his political views on Brexit, immigration, and the Reform UK party, as well as mention specific TV shows, sports teams, and even silly inside jokes. His videos offered fans an entertaining and lighthearted way to connect with his signature straight-talking, anti-establishment style.

Substantial Outside Earnings Continue

Despite the loss of Cameo income, Farage continues to earn substantial sums from other external engagements. Earlier last month, he pocketed £27,800 after flying to the United States to address an anti-climate think tank with close ties to Donald Trump. Since his election, he has received almost £1.4 million in payments from outside interests.

During his US trip, Farage had hoped to meet President Trump at his Mar-a-Lago complex in Florida to lobby the Trump administration. This occurred during a week when the US president's relations with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer hit rock bottom over the Iran war. Although the meeting didn't take place, Farage still received a large payment for speaking at Club for Growth, a conservative anti-tax lobby group based in Washington, D.C., which has vowed to work closely with President Trump and his team.

Controversy and Denials

When asked if he would continue making Cameo videos, Farage responded: I will decline to comment on that. I don't approve of things being published in national newspapers that have been illegally obtained. The Guardian newspaper has denied that any of the information about his Cameo activities was illegally obtained. Reform UK was approached for comment on the matter but has not provided an official statement.

The suspension of Farage's Cameo activities represents a significant shift for the politician who had turned personalised video messages into a substantial income stream. With thousands of fans still waiting for his return to the platform, and weekly losses mounting, the future of this unusual political side business remains uncertain.
